SNOHOMISH, WA— It was a good night for the Snohomish Skyhawks at the Snohomish Soccer Dome on Saturday December 2nd. The Skyhawks debuted their new black shirts with sponsors Trails End Taphouse & Restaurant and then proceeded to rout the Oly Town Artesians 10-4 (read the Artesians’ match recap here.)
The Skyhawks got braces ( 2 goals each) from Paul Burgess, Adrian Espinoza and Tye Hastings. The match was a 6-0 shut out at halftime. It was 1-0 Snohomish just 9 seconds in when Hastings took advantage of a shuffled Artesian’s back line (see video at top.) The Skyhawks built momentum from there and the first half scoring was capped off when Oly Town surrendered an own goal to make it 6-0. Before that Hastings completed his brace and the Shyhawks also got goals from Burgess, Espinoza and Aaron Burns. Trevor Davoren registered the first half clean sheet in goal for Snohomish.
In the second half the Artesians used a pressing style and a couple of power play sessions to break into the scoring column. They got goals from JT Meyer, Matt Stalnik, Josh Dube, and Gabrielle Zaccagnini in an improved effort. Meanwhile the Skyhawks kept their six goal advantage by answering with second goals from Burgess and Espinoza along with strikes from Andrew Escalante and Michael Sitzman. Seth Hespe played in goal for Snohomish in the second half and was tested early as Oly Town came out from the break with four quick shots in the opening seconds of the second half.
The Skyhawks next play on Saturday December 9 back at the Snohomish Soccer Dome against the first-place Hammers of Bellingham United at 7 PM. In this week’s other match Bellingham rallied late to beat the Tacoma Stars Reserves 9-7.
