BELLINGHAM, WA— The Snohomish Skyhawks traveled up to Bellingham to face the two-time defending WISL Champions Bellingham United on November 4th. It was a good experience once you get past what it said on the scoreboard: 10-2 Hammers.
The Skyhawks encountered snow on the ground and a ready-to-go Bellingham side on the Sportsplex turf. The score was 3-1 in favor of the home side at halftime before Snohomish ran out of gas on Bham’s big indoor pitch.
Skyhawks goalkeepers Andrew Chavez and Trevor Davoren each had multiple fine saves for Snohomish. The Skyhawks got a late tap-in goal from Corey Hendrickson.
The staff talked about the performance afterwards and agreed that Paul Burgess deserved the “Mr. Hustle” award on the night for running up and down the pitch and making plays all night. They also tipped their hats to Mike Sitzman as “Mr. Gladiator: for taking some hits and bumps and getting banged around all night.
The Skyhawks open their 2017-18 Western Indoor Soccer League (WISL) season on Saturday November 11 when they travel south to play the Oly Town Artesians at 6:30 PM at the Pavilion on the campus of The Evergreen State College in Olympia.
The Skyhawks congratulate longtime goalkeeper Seth Hespe on his marriage! “Seth has grown and matured so much since he started playing more than 5 years ago with the Skyhawks,” says coach Tao Shen. “It’s so cool to see my players go through these stages in their lives and be part of that. It’s really more than just about X’s and O’s.”
